Braces

What are Braces?

Braces are metal wires attached to the teeth that, over time, correct misaligned teeth and improper bites.

Who should get braces?

To determine if braces are a suitable orthodontic device for you, we will need to perform a comprehensive mouth examination, complete with X-rays, digital scans and impressions of your teeth and bite.

Braces are typically worn for a few years, so it's a commitment to your dental health. Once we have all the necessary information, we can create your treatment plan with your needs in mind.

What types of braces are there?

We provide two main types of fixed braces: traditional metal braces and clear ceramic braces.

Traditional metal braces use brackets and wires made of high-grade stainless steel to place continuous pressure on your teeth to align. They are the most common choice, especially for children, as they offer customisable colour bands.

Clear ceramic braces are much more subtle as they appear transparent on the teeth. These are more suited to adults as they require more upkeep and are less durable than metal braces.

What is the process for receiving braces?

Our braces procedure is straightforward and quick to ensure that patients, especially our young patients, remain comfortable and do not have to sit for too long.

We first clean and dry the teeth before applying an adhesive to hold the metal brackets in place. The wires are then attached to each bracket, and elastics are placed on top to keep them in place.

It may take some time to adjust to your new braces, but they will soon start to feel normal.

Braces aftercare

Apart from your regular daily dental hygiene routine, you will also need to care for your braces by avoiding certain foods (such as popcorn, apples and toffees).

An essential part of your braces treatment will be visiting us at regular intervals to adjust your braces, add new elastics and update you on your progress.
